The tour begins with a 30-45 minute visit stop at Batu Caves, one of the most popular Hindu Shrines outside of India, dedicated to Lord Murugan. Spend your time climbing its 272-steps, walking through the main cave, where you can enjoy sculptures of deities and murals depicting scenes of the Hindu Scriptures, and watching the many monkeys living in and around the caves. After which you will proceed on the 1 1/2 hour journey to Kuala Gandah Elephant Sanctuary, via the East Coast Highway, driving past the Titiwangsa mountain ranges, limestone hills and through the Malaysian rainforest.
At midday, lunch of local cuisine will be served at Lanchang town, Pahang and following that, there will be an enroute stop at Deerland Mini Zoo. Upon arrival at the elephant sanctuary there will be a short briefing from the staff and a 30 minute video documentary about elephant relocation at the Visitors Information Centre. Activities begin with the elephant feeding, watching the adult elephant bathing in the river, and elephant grooming. Water activities with the baby elephants is subject to water levels and the weather.
Watch how these wondrous creatures live in harmony and if you're lucky, you might be able to play with some of the baby elephants, ride the adult elephants, feed them and even bathe with them in the river. Learn all about the importance of habitat and environmental preservation as you fall in love with these gentle creatures. Once the activities end, you will be given time to clean up and change out your wet and dirty clothes, before proceeding on the journey back to Kuala Selangor.
Upon arrival, you will enjoy a visit stop to Kota Melawati, a Dutch fort built at the end of the 1700s formerly known as Fort Altingsburg. There you can feed silver leaf monkeys and admire the Melawati Hill Lighthouse while enjoying the breathtaking view of the Straits of Melaka. On the drive, enjoy enroute stops at a Malay Traditional House, rubber and palm plantations, a tropical fruit orchard and much more, depending on the weather and time of day.
Dinner will be served overlooking the Kuala Selangor river where you will be able to watch the sunset as you enjoy a mouthwatering spread of local dishes. Finally you will proceed to Kampung Kuantan for the firefly river boat cruise. Our skilled local oarsmen will row you upstream in the quiet darkness to witness the scintillating display put on by the thousands of fireflies found in the mangrove swamp.
