MOUNT
KINABALU & PORING HOT SPRING
Mt. Kinabalu
Summit
()
Mount
Kinabalu National Park which covers an area 754 sq. kilometres is one of
the greatest attractions of
Sabah. The park is yearly visited by thousands of tourists who
come to enjoy its climatic, scenic,
floral and faunal splendors. of
Sabah. The park is yearly visited by thousands of tourists who
come to enjoy its climatic, scenic,
floral and faunal splendors.
Among other
things it also contains the granite massif of Mt. Kinabalu at (4,101m or 13.433ft), which is South East
Asia's greatest challenge to climbers and its the highest peak in
South East Asia. ( )
Poring
is a Kadazandusun word for the bamboo species growing in the
area. Situated 40km (25 miles) slightly north east of the
Kinabalu Park HQ, Poring is in the lowlands, a complete contrast
to the HQ.
The spring is
known for its therapeutic and soothing baths that contains
sulphuric minerals which can take away sores and aches of
muscles. The bath is favoured by those who have just returned
from the arduous climb of Mount Kinabalu. Wherelse the natives
claimed that it has curative powers and very popular among the
locals.
Poring Hot
Springs offer plenty of hidden treasures in the area and its
surrounding.
Butterfly
farm
Here you will find several species
of colourful and striking butterflies, Borneo's first
butterflies' farm features a garden, nursery and hatchery for
the purpose of research, education and the preservation of
endangered species.
Poring
Orchid Conservation Center,
With 1,200 species of orchids found
with Kinabalu Park, the center has the largest living collection
of the Sabah Orchid and rare endemic wild orchids.
Kipungit
Waterfall,
Kipungit Waterfall is a mere
half-hour trek from the Poring Hotspring area. Sighboards and a
well-marked path will guild you through the shady forest and as
you trudge up and down rocky paths and cliffs, the sound of a
running waterfall will inevitably lead you to your destination.
The waterfall is relatively smaller than the Laganan Waterfall,
which is an hour and a half away by foot from Poring Hotspring.
The cool and refreshing water of the Kipungit waterfall will
prove to be too inviting to resist!
With its shady
canopy and beautiful rocks, the area is private, peaceful and a
great place to spend a lazy afternoon with family and friends.
Tropical
Garden,
Mousedeers and deers relax under the
gaze of colourful birds in the aviary.
Poring
Canopy Walkway,
A must-visit! Stroll amidst the
canopy of the Menggaris tree - the King of the Forest. The
Walkway is 157.8m long and 41m high!
What Stephanie Breen and Kate
Fitton of Australia have to say
Just
writing to let you know that we thoroughly enjoyed both our
mountain climb (despite the weather being absolutely terrible at
the summit!) and our river safari .
Both were perfectly organised which is much appreciated.
